Retire: Not a FAVRE-Fetched Idea for Brett

What's next for the Green Bay Packers?

The Packers are, quite frankly, at a crossroads. Retiring one of their all-time greats, Brett Favre, will either do them good or cause them harm. Keeping him around however will definitely won't do them good either.

And apparently, it all depends on Brett Favre's decision.

Last season, Brett Favre looked exactly how he should in a Packer uniform, old. Brett Favre showed the wear and tear of his career as he threw like a World War II veteran. To say that the Green Bay Packers played horribly last year could very well be an understatement.

And that is after Brett Favre said that he is in the best shape of his career.

Favre is contemplating if he'll still return to the Packer fold. He wonders if the team improved enough this offseason to justify his comeback in the 2006 NFL season. He also said that he is not sure if he wants to risk another losing season in the coming gridiron wars.

Brett is just not the same player he once was. The Raiders saw this with their resident quarterback, Rich Gannon. However, the Raiders disposed Gannon too soon and we all know what happened to the Raiders next.

As for the Packers, they're just prolonging the inevitable even though it's quite clear that Brett Favre SHOULD finally call it quits. There's really nothing else Favre must prove. Yes, if Favre did retire today, he will end his career with a losing season instead of a grandiose hero's exit. But hey, you don't have the stuff anymore, what can you do?

Favre is concerned about possibly ending his otherwise brilliant career with back-to-back losing seasons. Last year, he threw a career-high 29 interceptions and failed to throw for more than 20 touchdowns for only the second time since 1993, and the Packers finished 4-12 for their first losing season since he joined the team in 1992.

''Anything can happen, but I never thought we'd ever go 4-12 in my tenure at Green Bay. That's something that I'll have to live with, if I'm willing to go through that again,'' Brett Favre said.
