Stealing the Vince Lombardi Trophy: Steelers are Super Bowl XL Champions
Finally, the latest warfare on the National Football League (NFL) concluded with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the sixth seed in this year’s playoffs, edging the Seattle Seahawks, 21-10.
For the Steelers, they finally gave their head coach, Bill Cowher something to cheer about. And a Super Bowl XL win at that.
After merely a few minutes of Rolling Stones music that literally brought the house down, Willie Parker brought the house even further to the brink of hysteria as he ran for a record-breaking 75-yard touchdown run that engineered the Steelers’ 21-10 win.
It was indeed Jerome Bettis’ final bus ride, and the Steelers made it a memorable one, bidding him farewell with the franchise’s fifth championship ring.
‘’I'm a champion. I think the Bus’ last stop is here in Detroit,'’ Jerome Bettis said.
‘’It’s official, like the referee whistle.'’
Steelers’ head coach, Bill Cowher, didn’t cower in the sidelines, so to speak, as he redeemed himself with a Super Bowl title in his 14th season as Pittsburgh’s head honcho.
After losing his only previous Super Bowl 10 years ago, he walked, teared up, to midfield to embrace Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren.
‘’It’s surreal,'’ Bill Cowher said.
‘’I'm going to tell you, this is a special group of coaches, a special group of players. I was one small part of this.'’
The Pittsburgh Steelers tied San Francisco and Dallas with five Super Bowl titles.
